The Lit Media & Arts Hub has announced its annual observance of World Mental Health Day, an event designed to promote awareness, dialogue, and action around mental health issues within the community. The program, themed “Community: Supporting Mental Well-being Together,” will take place on Friday, October 2025, at the Tunde Odunlade Arts & Culture Gallery, No. 2 Ladoke Akintola Street, Off Aare Avenue, New Bodija, Ibadan, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

This year’s event promises to be a vibrant and thought-provoking gathering that underscores the importance of collective responsibility in nurturing mental health. As mental health challenges continue to impact individuals across all walks of life, The Lit Media & Arts Hub aims to create an inclusive platform for education, reflection, and community support through art, dialogue, and shared human experiences.

The convener of the event, Akinola Sesan, a poet, playwright, and mental health advocate, brings together professionals and creatives from diverse disciplines to engage in meaningful discussions about mental well-being. Through this initiative, The Lit Media & Arts Hub reinforces its ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between mental health advocacy and artistic expression, using creativity as a tool for healing and awareness.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Adeoti, from the Department of Social Work, University of Ibadan, will share insights on the event’s theme and shed light on the significance of community-driven initiatives in strengthening mental health support systems. His presentation is expected to challenge participants to view mental wellness not as an individual struggle but as a shared social responsibility.

In addition, a distinguished panel of speakers will further enrich the conversation. The panel includes Ifedolapo Olaniyi, Afro Hair Educator, Writer, Artist, and Mental Health Advocate; Kawthar Omisore, Lawyer and Educator; and Mary Olaoye, Clinical Psychologist. Their combined perspectives will foster a holistic discussion that examines the intersections of culture, identity, education, and emotional well-being in contemporary society.

The session will be moderated by Oluwasola Rauf, a social advocate known for his passion for youth engagement and community development, while Moses Odigie, a dynamic theatre personality, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Together, they will guide the audience through a lively, engaging, and reflective experience that encourages participation and self-expression.

Attendees can look forward to interactive sessions, poetry performances, and open conversations that emphasize empathy, connection, and understanding. These creative expressions will not only inform but also inspire participants to embrace mental wellness as an integral part of everyday living.

The Lit Media & Arts Hub invites the general public, artists, educators, health practitioners, students, and young people to attend this transformative event. Admission is free and open to everyone who shares the vision of a society where mental health is openly discussed, supported, and celebrated without stigma.

By celebrating World Mental Health Day through this platform, The Lit Media & Arts Hub reaffirms its belief in the power of community, creativity, and collective consciousness to shape a more compassionate and mentally resilient society. The initiative stands as a reminder that mental health is not just a personal matter—it is a shared journey of understanding and support.
