Babatunde, Boluwatife, Bamidele Set to Headline Ibadan Reads August Edition

 

BABATUNDE, BOLUWATIFE, AND BAMIDELE SET TO HEADLINE IBADAN READS AUGUST EDITION


 

The third edition of the Busari Agbolade Memorial Lecture held last month was a resounding success, and now the anticipation is building for the upcoming August monthly reading, featuring three exceptional literary talents: Babatunde Dorcas Oluwanifemi, Boluwatife Afolabi, and Bamidele Shakiroh Adewumi. This literary extravaganza promises to be a celebration of creativity, knowledge, and the love for the written word.

Scheduled for August 26th, 2023, at 12 PM, the event will take place at the prestigious Oyo State Library Board. Attendees can look forward to an inspiring showcase of literary prowess as the headliners take the stage. Each writer brings their unique perspective and talent, ensuring an engaging and thought-provoking experience.

Initiated by the collaborative efforts of the Ibadan Book Club and the Conference of Southwest Writers, Ibadan Reads aims to foster a vibrant literary culture in the heart of Ibadan. This platform provides both established and emerging writers with an opportunity to share their work, exchange ideas, and engage with the local community.

OUR GUEST WRITERS/READERS FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST

Boluwatife Afolabi, a literary dynamo, embarked on her writing journey five years ago, driven by her passion for words that weave tales. Her poems have graced the pages of prestigious magazines such as Poeticafrica and Writerspace. Notably, Boluwatife's poetic finesse has garnered her victories in various online poetry contests. She is currently pursuing a degree in English at a Nigerian university and holds a National Diploma Certificate in Mass Communication. Boluwatife believes that every individual is a character in the grand narrative of life.

Bamidele Shakiroh Adewumi, a distinguished graduate of Ekiti State University, Oyo Campus, specializes in English Language and Literary Studies. A fervent poet and gender advocate, Bamidele ardently supports UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality). She is the driving force behind Black Girl's Tale, an initiative dedicated to boosting the confidence of secondary school girls and empowering them to excel both academically and socially. Bamidele's tireless efforts also extend to championing the rights of the girl child, working relentlessly to eradicate abuse and discrimination.

Babatunde Dorcas Oluwanifemi, an alumnus of Yinbol College, Orogun Ibadan, and a current student at the University of Ibadan, is a passionate poet with a penchant for advocacy. Her dedication to amplifying the voices of the voiceless has led her to the world of poetry and art. In addition to her literary pursuits, Babatunde is the creative mind behind Dorkey Bae Bag Designs, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to multifaceted creativity.

Ibadan Reads August Edition promises to be a literary feast that transcends boundaries, embracing diversity, innovation, and the timeless power of storytelling.
