The Ibadan Book Club (IBC) is set to host two distinguished Ibadan-based writers, Suliyat Adepoju and Mrs. Gbemisola Esther Akintola, for its highly anticipated February edition of the Ibadan Book Talk.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Board Room of the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan, starting at 12:00 PM.

This was announced in a press release issued by the Founder of Ibadan Book Club, Wole Adedoyin, who expressed excitement about the unique talents and diverse perspectives both writers will bring to the event.

The Ibadan Book Talk, an ongoing initiative by the club, serves as a platform to celebrate literature, encourage creative discussions, and promote the cultural richness of Ibadan through the written and spoken word.

The February edition of Ibadan Book Talk will be jointly organized by the Ibadan Book Club (IBC), the Redeemed Writers Network (REDNET), and Global Word Crafters (GLOWCRAFT).

These collaborations aim to bring together writers, poets, and literary enthusiasts for an enriching discussion on writing, performance poetry, and the power of storytelling.

Suliyat Adepoju, also known by her stage name Onigege Ara, is a dynamic and passionate performance poet, cultural activist, and advocate for the Yoruba heritage. Known for her evocative poetry, she has performed on numerous platforms, including radio stations, literary events, and cultural gatherings, where she uses her craft to promote Yoruba culture. As an active member of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW Global), Egbe Odo Onkowe Yoruba, and the Ibadan Book Club, Suliyat has made an indelible mark on the local literary scene, engaging audiences with her unique voice and powerful performances.

A key highlight of the upcoming event will be Suliyat’s performance, which will explore Yoruba traditions, culture, and the role of poetry in social change. Her work has resonated with many, offering both artistic beauty and cultural depth, and she is expected to bring the same energy and insight to the Ibadan Book Talk stage.

Alongside Suliyat, Mrs. Gbemisola Esther Akintola will share her deep insights as a Christian writer and security analyst. Gbemisola, a graduate of the University of Abuja with a degree in Accounting, holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Peace and Conflict Studies, specializing in Human Security, from the University of Ibadan. Her academic background in peace studies complements her dedication to addressing societal issues through her writing, where she merges her faith and knowledge to craft impactful narratives.

Gbemisola’s writing is heavily inspired by her Christian faith and her extensive research in peace and conflict studies. Her works are deeply spiritual and intellectually stimulating, offering a unique perspective on topics of faith, human security, and societal healing.

At the Ibadan Book Talk, Gbemisola will present her latest work, which reflects the divine inspiration she received during her time at Bible School. She is expected to engage the audience with her thought-provoking ideas on Christian living, security, and the importance of peace in contemporary society.

In addition to her writing, Gbemisola enjoys reading inspirational books, listening to music, and engaging in critical thinking. She also finds joy in her role as a mother to her son, Adeyemi Toluwani Samuel, whom she lovingly refers to as “my pastor.” This personal connection to her faith and family is woven into her writing, making her works resonate with a wide range of audiences.

Both Suliyat and Gbemisola are known for their commitment to literary excellence and cultural advocacy, making them perfect headliners for this month's edition of Ibadan Book Talk. Their participation promises to offer an inspiring blend of creativity, culture, faith, and intellectual discourse that attendees will not want to miss.

The event will provide a unique opportunity for writers, poets, students, and literary enthusiasts to engage with these two accomplished individuals and learn from their experiences.

Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions, participate in discussions, and deepen their appreciation for the diverse literary voices emerging from Ibadan.

Ibadan Book Talk has become a signature event for literary and cultural enthusiasts in Ibadan, attracting a growing audience eager to connect with local and international writers. The club’s focus on promoting dialogue, exchanging ideas, and celebrating the written word continues to create an enriching atmosphere for all who attend.

The Ibadan Book Club, in collaboration with REDNET and GLOWCRAFT, warmly invites everyone to join them for this exciting literary event on Saturday, February 22, 2025, as they welcome Suliyat Adepoju and Mrs. Gbemisola Esther Akintola to the stage.
