David, Suliyat and Oluwafemi to headline Ibadan Book Club September Reading

 

DAVID, SULIYAT AND OLUWAFEMI TO HEADLINE IBADAN BOOK CLUB SEPTEMBER READING

 


Ibadan Book Club (IBC) has set aside 25th day of September, 2021 to host three Ibadan based writers and artist, DAVID O. LAWAL, SULIYAT ADEPOJU and ADELEKE HATTRICK OLUWAFEMI in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

A statement issued by both the Coordinator and Secretary of the club, Ayobami Odunyemi and Mary Ndukwo said the event would take place at the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Ibadan by 12PM prompt.

 

DAVID O. LAWAL is a graduate of Biochemistry from The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). He is a thinker, writer, conference speaker, and leadership coach.

 

David is a co-founder of KIST! and the founder of Friendship Leadership Institute, an organisation which powers his conferences, seminars and training programmes such as the Masterful Speakers Masterclass (an international masterclass where David and other speakers and trainers from the UK, USA, Canada, S/Africa, Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria train professionals and corporate executives—from around the continent—to become effective leaders through the mastery of precise and powerful communication skills).

 

He is the winner of the prestigious IDW Essay Contest (2016) and has won several leadership awards.

 

David treasures the years 2018 and 2019. That is because between July 2018 and June 2019, he observed his national service in Abia State, where he was the general parade commander for Batch 18B Stream I, and also served as the official NYSC trainer for public speaking, creative writing and entrepreneurship (and other related skills) for new Corps members. He also served Christ’s church as the General Coordinator (or President) of the Deeper Life Corpers Fellowship, Abia State.

 

So far, David has been able to speak to and train over 2000 leaders and speakers. He enjoys spending time with his masterful speakers in the Masterful Speakers Network, cheering them, providing honest and helpful answers to their burning questions, creating speaking platforms for them, promoting their personal brands and celebrating their wins.

 

David currently lives in Ibadan and travels to speak at conferences, to facilitate training seminars and to lead coaching classes around the country.

 

SULIYAT ADEPOJU (aka) Arike Elewi is currently the Coordinator of Egbe Odo Onkowe Yoruba and Yoruba language folk Poet and Poetry Chanter.  Arike Elewi has written many poems and short stories in Yoruba Language and has read and chanted many of her poems on Petal FM (a radio station based in Ibadan). She is a member of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) and Fagunwa Literary Society (FLS).

 

ADELEKE HATTRICK OLUWAFEMI is a professional Artist. He practices both visual and performing Art. Adeleke Hattrick Oluwafemi attended Ifa Heritage Institute, Oyo, where he studied Art and Culture to become an Artist and a custodian of culture. He represents the fast growing Hope in Art world as a result of his honed skills. He has presented papers at the African Union Fora where he represented Nigerian youths.  He preached about the needs for the world leaders to adopt Art as a creative means in solving  the endemic unemployment among youths. He also won the first edition of the  RYLA-U win business support. Adeleke Hattrick Oluwafemi has won many international supports for his projects for Women,  Youths and Youths who are involved in substances abuse in the slums and refugee camp using Art as a tool to correct their addictions. He also speaks with over 1000 youths every month. Hattrick is a full time studio Artist who is involved in Art in the last one decade.

 

The upcoming book reading event promises to be an avenue for reading creative works such as poetry, fiction, book sales and signing, contacts with other readers and book writers in all corners of the state of Oyo, the statement added.

Prospective writers who have works in poetry, short stories and novels can also attend to read their works to other writers and readers. Membership forms and certificate of membership will be available at no charge to first timers.

Ibadan Book Club is an initiative of the Nigerian Young Writers Society. It was founded in 2011 by SYNW in order to contribute its own quota to the growth and development of the Reading Culture in the State of Oyo.

The Ibadan Book Club consists of a group of people who meet, meet periodically to discuss the book they have read and exchange those books. Club members encourage each other and learn to read with a critical mind, articulating their opinions about a particular book with others. Certain types of books not available or read receive attention through the book club.

Some of the publications published by Ibadan Book Club are: Olubadan Centennial Anthology: a collection of essays, articles, poems and works of art in honor of Oba (Dr.) Samuel Odulana, Odugade 1, Voices from Oja Oba Market and Finally, Senator Abiola Ajimobi: Memories, Dreams, Reflections of a Mind Always in Motion.
