In the literary realm, Izehi stands out as the W.S Merwin Memorial Prize Winner, featured in the prestigious Prism Anthology's August Edition of 2023. His dedication to the art of haiku is further underscored by the Haiku of the Month Award from the Haiku Foundation, USA, bestowed upon him in August 2021.

Daniel Olayinka Olorunkosebi, a graduate of Babcock University in Nigeria and Robert Gordon University in the UK, holds degrees in Information Resources Management and Corporate Communication. Renowned as an award-winning Spoken Word Artist, Stage and Film Enthusiast, Storyteller, Speaker, and Coach for children and teens, he has garnered widespread acclaim for his exceptional talents.

Daniel's dedication to his craft has propelled him to executive roles in various national and international organizations, showcasing his commitment to community and professional involvement. Among these organizations are the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYWN), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Poetry Enclave, Good Deeds International, English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria, Heart Clinic Chaplain Association, and many others—a testament to his diverse and impactful contributions.

WAHAB OLAMILEKAN

Wahab Olamilekan is a multifaceted individual, serving as a social educator, poet, and graphic designer. In his perspective, life navigates the realms of mortality, suffering, and monotony, challenging conventional notions by suggesting a world improved by the absence of hope, soul, and love. Paradoxically, he views love as the paramount motivation for existence. His literary and artistic creations have been featured in notable platforms such as Afrorep, Artmosterrific Issue 2, and ANA Review 2022, among others. Hailing from Ibadan, he weaves his insights into compelling narratives and visual expressions.

AWE JÉSÙJOBA ISAAC

Awe Jésùjoba Isaac is a versatile individual known by his poetic alias, 'Jọba the poète' or simply 'Jọba'. Embracing the dual identity of poet and fashion model, Awe is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, where he earned a degree in Counsellor Education.

Awe's poetic journey began in 2008 during his secondary school years, and since then, he has dedicated himself to refining his craft. Evolving beyond traditional poetry, he explored the realm of spoken word poetry, debuting his performance skills in 2018.

The Ibadan Book Club, in partnership with the Nigerian Writers Academy, is pleased to announce the upcoming Ibadan Poetry Writing Techniques Workshop scheduled for this coming Saturday, November 25th, 2023. This eagerly anticipated event, tailored exclusively for emerging poets, aims to provide valuable guidance to those venturing into the realm of poetry writing and those seeking to refresh their understanding of its fundamentals.

Convened by Wole Adedoyin, the workshop will showcase distinguished guest poets, including Izehi Destiny Ughulu, Daniel Olayinka Olorunkosebi, Wahab Olamilekan, and Awe Jésùjoba Isaac. These influential figures in the poetry field will share their insights and expertise, offering participants a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best in the field.

BABATUNDE, BOLUWATIFE, AND BAMIDELE SET TO HEADLINE IBADAN READS AUGUST EDITION

 

The third edition of the Busari Agbolade Memorial Lecture held last month was a resounding success, and now the anticipation is building for the upcoming August monthly reading, featuring three exceptional literary talents: Babatunde Dorcas Oluwanifemi, Boluwatife Afolabi, and Bamidele Shakiroh Adewumi. This literary extravaganza promises to be a celebration of creativity, knowledge, and the love for the written word.

Scheduled for August 26th, 2023, at 12 PM, the event will take place at the prestigious Oyo State Library Board. Attendees can look forward to an inspiring showcase of literary prowess as the headliners take the stage. Each writer brings their unique perspective and talent, ensuring an engaging and thought-provoking experience.

Initiated by the collaborative efforts of the Ibadan Book Club and the Conference of Southwest Writers, Ibadan Reads aims to foster a vibrant literary culture in the heart of Ibadan. Boluwatife Afolabi, a literary dynamo, embarked on her writing journey five years ago, driven by her passion for words that weave tales. Her poems have graced the pages of prestigious magazines such as Poeticafrica and Writerspace. Notably, Boluwatife's poetic finesse has garnered her victories in various online poetry contests. She is currently pursuing a degree in English at a Nigerian university and holds a National Diploma Certificate in Mass Communication. Boluwatife believes that every individual is a character in the grand narrative of life.

Bamidele Shakiroh Adewumi, a distinguished graduate of Ekiti State University, Oyo Campus, specializes in English Language and Literary Studies. A fervent poet and gender advocate, Bamidele ardently supports UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality). She is the driving force behind Black Girl's Tale, an initiative dedicated to boosting the confidence of secondary school girls and empowering them to excel both academically and socially. Bamidele's tireless efforts also extend to championing the rights of the girl child, working relentlessly to eradicate abuse and discrimination.

Babatunde Dorcas Oluwanifemi, an alumnus of Yinbol College, Orogun Ibadan, and a current student at the University of Ibadan, is a passionate poet with a penchant for advocacy. Her dedication to amplifying the voices of the voiceless has led her to the world of poetry and art. In addition to her literary pursuits, Babatunde is the creative mind behind Dorkey Bae Bag Designs, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to multifaceted creativity.

Ibadan Reads August Edition promises to be a literary feast that transcends boundaries, embracing diversity, innovation, and the timeless power of storytelling. The Ibadan Book Club (IBC) in partnership with the Ulli Beier Society (formerly known as the AZA Artists and Writers Movement) is proud to announce the upcoming third edition of the Busari Agbolade Memorial Lecture. This annual event serves as a tribute to the memory of one of its esteemed past Patrons and former Chairman of the Movement, the late Busari Olaniyi Agbolade, who passed away on the 9th of June, 2020, at the age of 72 years.

The Busari Agbolade Memorial Lecture is a significant occasion that celebrates the life and contributions of a distinguished individual who played a pivotal role in shaping the literary and artistic landscape of Ibadan and beyond. Through this annual event, the IBC and the Ulli Beier Society aim to uphold the legacy of Busari Agbolade and promote a deeper appreciation of the arts and culture within the community.

The much-anticipated lecture is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 29th, 2023. The event will be held at the prestigious Main Hall of the Oyo State Library Board, and the program is set to commence at 12:00 PM.

Christopher Emmanuel, formerly known as Abdul Yisa Onibasa, the visionary founder and artistic Director of Alajotas Dance & Music Troupe Int'l. With a rich background in the performing arts industry, he also boasts expertise in Non-Profit organizations, event planning, strategic planning, theatre, and event management.

In 1999, the Alajotas Dance and Music Troupe Int'l was established at the New Culture studio in Oremeji, Mokola Ibadan.

The name "Alajota" carries a meaningful significance, translating to "Terpsichorean merchant," derived from the traditional epithet of the ancient Yoruba itinerant performer known for their mastery of dance. This name aptly reflects Christopher Emmanuel's (Abdul Yisa Onibasa) unwavering dedication to dance.

PROFILE OF THE LATE BUSARI OLANIYI AGBOLADE

Busari Olaniyi Agbolade, born on 13th July 1948, was a skilled professional in painting and steel fabrication. He began his education at A.U.D Primary School in Ila Orangun, attending from 1955 to 1960, and later pursued secondary education at L.A Secondary School in Ila Orangun from 1961 to 1963. Subsequently, he embarked on an apprenticeship at Adegoke Metal Construction Company from 1965 to 1967.

From 1969 to 1975, Busari Olaniyi Agbolade worked with notable organizations such as the Niger West Construction Company, Niger Dam Authority, and Uren Construction Engineering Company. In 1976, he honed his skills in Aluminium and Copper Artistic Panel Beating under the guidance of Yekini Agboola, who was an apprentice to Chief Ashiru Olatunde of Osogbo School.

In 1980, he furthered his education by joining the Abayomi Barber School of Thought at the University of Lagos to study painting. After completing his studies, he began working with the University of Lagos in 1980 but eventually resigned from his position in 1993 to fully devote himself to his artistic endeavors.

Throughout his career, Elder Busari Olaniyi Agbolade actively participated in numerous exhibitions. These include the Barber School Exhibition sponsored by N.C.A.C in 1984, the Benue State Art Exhibition in 1985, the Lagos State Art Council exhibition in 1986, and the "Man in Focus" exhibition by the Federal Department of Culture in 1986. Additionally, he showcased his art internationally, participating in an Exhibition of Paintings and Batiks by three Nigerian Artists in Dakar, Senegal in 1987, and an exhibition with 843 Studio Gallery in East New York, U.S.A from October to December 1988. He was a regular participant in the Lagos State Chapter of S.N.A. Annual exhibition from 1991 to 2009.

Elder Busari Olaniyi Agbolade was sought after for commissioned works, creating portraits of HRH Aholu Menu Toyi, Akran of Badagry, Orangun of Ila, Oba William Adetona Ayeni, and other prominent Nigerians both at home and abroad. Notably, his painting "Mother and Child" was commissioned by 843 Studio Gallery in New York, U.S.A.
