The Orpheus Literary Foundation has announced a special Literary Soiree featuring the distinguished poet, playwright, and cultural technocrat, Denja Abdulahi. This event, themed "Curating Cultural Production: The Public & Private Sectors’ Perspectives," will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Adam Pages Bookstore, Kingdom Plaza, Abuja.


The Literary Soiree promises an enriching experience for literature and culture enthusiasts. The event will include a variety of activities such as a book signing, panel discussion, poetry readings, and performances. Attendees will also be treated to a mini Afro-Dervish performance, blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary expressions. Salamatu Sule will moderate the event, ensuring a lively and engaging discourse.


Denja Abdulahi, the guest of honor, has made significant contributions to Nigerian literature and cultural administration. 


Born on August 27, 1969, in Idah, Kogi State, he has been a prolific writer and cultural advocate for over three decades. His literary journey began during his studies at the University of Jos, where he emerged as the best graduating student in 1990. He later earned a Master’s degree in Literature-in-English from the University of Ilorin in 1992.


Abdulahi’s literary works span various genres, including poetry, plays, and essays. His poems have been featured in numerous anthologies and his debut poetic volume, Mairogo: A Buffoon’s Poetic Journey around Northern Nigeria (2001), received honorable mention for the ANA/CADBURY 2001 Poetry Prize. He has since published several other works, including The Talking Drum (2008) and Abuja Nunyi (This is Abuja) (2008).


In addition to his literary achievements, Abdulahi has played a pivotal role in the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), holding various executive positions for an uninterrupted span of 26 years. 


His dedication to the growth and visibility of Nigerian literature has earned him the title of "Chief Servant of Nigerian Writers." He has also served as the President of ANA, leading impactful programs and projects across the country.


The Orpheus Literary Foundation is honored to host this event, which not only celebrates Abdulahi’s contributions to literature but also provides a platform for discussing the intersections of cultural production between the public and private sectors. The panel discussion will feature insights from prominent figures in the literary and cultural sectors, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in curating cultural heritage.

The Ibadan Book Club (IBC) has revealed plans to host Mrs. Oluyemisi Odubayo, the Head of Branch (HOB) of the Oyo State Branch of the National Library of Nigeria (NLN), at its upcoming Sensitisation Workshop. This important event is scheduled for August 31, 2024, at the Oyo State Library Board (OYSLB) in Ibadan, with the program starting at 12 PM.


This workshop, aimed at writers, editors, and publishers, will focus on the critical aspects of Legal Deposit, International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), and International Standard Book Number (ISBN) processes.
