WHY SYNW SET UP YOUNG NIGERIAN WRITERS' AWARDS.
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has been committed to promoting young Nigerian writers' creative works through various initiatives. One of the most significant initiatives is the Young Nigerian Writers Awards, which has been established to recognize and reward young Nigerian writers' outstanding literary achievements.
The SYNW believes that young writers are an essential part of Nigeria's literary ecosystem, and their works should be recognized and celebrated. As such, the Young Nigerian Writers Awards was established in 2013 to promote, test, reward, recognize and award young Nigerian writers of creative works.
The award has several categories, including poetry, drama, prose, and indigenous literature. The categories are further divided into awards for teen writers (between the ages of 7 and 15) and young writers (between the ages of 18 and 35). The awards are named after some of Nigeria's most iconic writers, including Ify Omalicha Agwu, Sesan Ajayi, Dapo Adelugba, Ola Rotimi, Akinwumi Isola, Festus Iyayi, Imam Abubakar, D.O. Fagunwa, and Pita Nwana.
The Young Nigerian Writers Awards is an excellent opportunity for young writers to showcase their talents and get recognized for their literary achievements. The award has attracted hundreds of submissions from young writers across Nigeria and has become a highly competitive literary award.
One of the primary goals of the Young Nigerian Writers Awards is to encourage young writers to develop their craft and hone their skills. The awards provide a platform for young writers to receive feedback on their work from established writers and literary critics, helping them to improve their writing.
The award also serves as a source of motivation and inspiration for young writers, encouraging them to continue writing and pursuing their literary dreams. The recognition and prestige that come with winning the award can also help young writers gain more exposure and advance their careers.
The SYNW believes that promoting young Nigerian writers' creative works is critical to the growth and development of Nigeria's literary ecosystem. By recognizing and rewarding young writers' outstanding achievements, the SYNW hopes to inspire more young people to pursue careers in writing and contribute to Nigeria's literary heritage.
The Young Nigerian Writers Awards is also an excellent opportunity for the SYNW to showcase the organization's commitment to promoting young Nigerian writers. The award is a testament to the SYNW's dedication to fostering a vibrant literary culture in Nigeria, and it has helped to cement the organization's reputation as one of the leading literary organizations in the country.
Over the years, the Young Nigerian Writers Awards has produced some of Nigeria's most talented young writers. Past winners of the award include Izunna Okafor, Adeleke Rafiu, Kola Adeoye, Adisa Akinola, Victor Okechukwu, and Ayo Oyeku, among others. These young writers have gone on to achieve great success in their careers, and the SYNW is proud to have played a role in their journey.
