SYNW APPOINTS CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR IBADAN BOOK CLUB
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has set up a Caretaker committee to run the affairs of Ibadan Book Club for another six months.
This development was announced on Friday evening through a statement from the national Secretariat of the Society.
The Statement said that Ayobami Odunyemi and Mary Ndukwo would serve as the Chairman and Secretary of the committee while other members included Wahab Sulaimon, Ayoade Hassanah, Suliyat Adepoju, Ayinde Omogbolahan Abiodun, Akinfenwa Temitope, Oyetunji Moyinoluwa, Omitoogun Tinuade, Akin Tella Peace, Ajobo Haleeah Oluwalaanumi and Fatiha Olomide.
The caretaker committee is charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the book club for a period of six months(January to June 2022) until a new executive committee is elected.
“All critical stakeholders and members of IBC in Oyo State and other parts of the country are by this guided accordingly,” the statement said.
The Statement finally enjoined all members of the Club to continue to work in harmony for the tasks ahead.
Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), is an umbrella organization that was founded to promote creative writing and literary arts among writers based in Nigeria between the ages of 10 and 40. It was founded in 2010 at the former house of the Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka at the University of Ibadan. It was formerly known as the World of Poets and Literary Society.
Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) is a member of the International Authors Forum (IAF). It has also collaborated with different international organizations like the Alliance Francaise, 100 Thousand Poets for Change (USA), Woman Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival, International Human Rights Art Festival (USA) and lately, the International Women Writing Guild (IWWD).
In 2019, Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) was duly acknowledged and mentioned in a book titled “TEEN LIVES AROUND THE WORLD: A GLOBAL ENCYCLOPEDIA (2 VOLUMES)” edited by Karen Wells. The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) was described as the only teen writers’ body in Nigeria.
